PM Modi's ‘neighbourhood first’ reply to Sri Lankan coach Sanath Jayasuriya's request

Sanath Jayasuriya, a former cricket player for Sri Lanka, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday for India's assistance to the island nation amid its financial crisis. On Saturday, Jayasuriya and other players from Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning squad visited with Prime Minister Modi in Colombo.

"You and the administration were very helpful to us throughout the times of instability and problems in Sri Lanka. We will always be appreciative of your assistance to Sri Lanka. In his conversation with the prime minister, Jayasuriya, the current head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team, stated, "As the coach of Sri Lanka, at the moment we play all over Sri Lanka except Jaffna."

"I am happy to hear such words from Jayasuriya," PM Modi retorted. India has consistently prioritized its neighbors. We assist our neighboring nations as quickly as we can. An earthquake just struck Myanmar. The first responders were us.
