Central government raises excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹2 per litre

According to ANI, which cited a notification from the department of revenue, the union government has increased the excise duty on gasoline and diesel by ₹2 per litre.  According to the announcement, the updated excise duty will take effect on April 8, 2025. According to the directive, the excise tax on gasoline was raised to ₹13 per liter and on diesel to ₹10.

"PSU Oil Marketing Companies have informed that there will be no increase in retail prices of Petrol and Diesel, subsequent to the increase effected in Excise Duty Rates today," the ministry of petroleum and natural gas wrote on X.

According to the ruling, the Central government imposed the higher duty in the public interest in accordance with sections 147 of the Finance Act of 2002 and 5A of the Central Excise Act of 1944.
