Guv ceases to be chancellor of state-run varsities in Tamil Nadu, says DMK leader
Chennai A DMK leader stated on Tuesday that Governor RN Ravi no longer serves as the chancellor of state-run universities in accordance with the Supreme Court's ruling regarding the 10 bills of the Tamil Nadu Assembly and issues pertaining to their assent that involve the state government and the governor's office.
Senior advocate and DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson stated that the 10 bills include those for the removal of the governor from universities where he served as chancellor. This was in response to reporters' questions following the ruling about whether the chief minister would serve as chancellor of state-run universities or if the government would appoint chancellors.
"As per the apex court judgment, the governor is deemed to have granted assent and hence, governor is relieved from that post effective today," he stated. Wilson added that the chancellor would be someone chosen by the Tamil Nadu government in compliance with the legislation' requirements.
