Is Trump any closer to winning the Nobel Peace Prize now that Israel and Hamas have agreed to a truce in Gaza?

France and other Western allies pushed to recognize Palestine's statehood in an attempt to end the war in Gaza, a decision that has drawn harsh criticism from the US and Israel. Amid the criticism, French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters during the September UN General Assembly that Donald Trump should only be awarded a Nobel Prize if he is able to stop Israel's war on Gaza.

A few weeks later, President Donald Trump presented Israel and Hamas with a 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which may end the two-year conflict that has killed over 67,000 people. President Donald Trump said on Truth Social Wednesday that the first step of the Gaza peace plan had been approved to by Israel and Hamas. Trump declared, "BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!" when he made the announcement.

All 48 hostages in Hamas' custody, including the 20 thought to be alive, will be released as part of this initial phase, which is scheduled to take effect on Thursday. Israel will free some 2,000 Palestinians who have been detained or imprisoned in exchange for these captives. Trump's presentation of the 2025 Nobel Prizes and the Gaza peace proposal come at the same time. Since returning to the White House, Trump has had his sights set on the Peace Prize, one of the six awards.
