Delhi HC issues notice on alleged violation in Jamia VC appointment
In response to a plea contesting the validity of Professor Mazhar Asif's appointment as Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, the Delhi High Court has sent a notice to the Central Government, Jamia Millia Islamia University, and other parties. The plea raises objections on multiple grounds, including claims of the Search Committee's unlawful constitution and the Chairman's improper nomination.
It claims the Union Ministry of Education meddled, allegedly influencing the Visitor to choose one of the Ministry's two nominees for Chairman. The appeal further claims that the Ministry of Education's participation in the Vice Chancellor's nomination process was against the Supreme Court's established norms and statutory procedures.
