A family claims that an Indian guy shot near the Israeli border was the victim of a work scam.

According to the BBC, the family of Thomas Gabriel Perera, an Indian man who was shot dead while entering Israel illegally from Jordan, says he fell victim to an employment fraud. On February 10, Jordanian security officers killed Perera close to the Israeli border. According to his family, the lure of a lucrative job in Jordan deceived him. He thought he could get work in Israel, so he tried to enter the country when the job offer did not come through.

According to reports, there are more and more instances of Indians getting tricked by employment scams and unlawfully entering the country in pursuit of employment. The body of Perera is still in Jordan. According to India's foreign ministry, plans were in motion to return his remains to the country. Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesman for the ministry of external affairs, told the BBC that the documentation procedure and other things would take one or two days to finish.

Perera's seat is represented by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who stated Monday that Indian embassy officials in Jordan had established his identification and started the process of transferring the body
