MK Stalin On Risks Of Petrol, Gas Mining Off Tamil Nadu

Mr. Stalin reminded the PM that the proposed mining project is located close to a marine biosphere reserve, which is vital to the coastal state because it contains sea grass, coral reefs, and extensive mangrove forests.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin launched a new front in his conflict with the center on Tuesday, this time regarding a planned offshore natural gas and petroleum mining project in the Gulf of Mannar region, which is situated between the western coast of Sri Lanka and the southeast tip of India.

He warned of "irreversible damage" to the delicate marine ecosystem in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
