The decision by the Tamil Nadu government to alter the rupee emblem reflects a risky mentality that erodes Indian unity: Sitharaman Nirmala
The Tamil Nadu government's decision to substitute a Tamil character for the rupee symbol was criticized by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday, claiming that it betrays a risky mentality that erodes Indian unity.
'Ru', the initial letter of the Tamil word 'Rubaai', which represents the Indian currency in the vernacular language, was featured in the state budget emblem that the government unveiled on Thursday.
In a post on X, the Union finance minister criticized the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) for the controversy surrounding the rupee symbol, stating that the party ought to have objected when the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) adopted it in 2010.
"The DMK has completely disregarded the creative contribution of a Tamil youth by removing the rupee symbol, in addition to rejecting a national symbol," Nirmala Sitharaman stated.
