Kota has reported 14 student suicide occurrences so far in 2025
The city of Kota, in Rajasthan, is renowned as the "coaching capital of India" and reports a number of suicide incidents annually by coaching students. According to news agency PTI, there have been 14 such cases reported in the city so far this year. The number was 17 in 2024, compared to 26 in 2023 when coaching students committed suicide. According to authorities, the new reported suicide of a NEET applicant in Kota's Parshavnath area ahead of the national medical entrance exam on Sunday raised the total number of 2025 candidates to 14.
The girl was aged under 18 years and hailed from Madhya Pradesh's Sheopur, Kunhadi police station's circle inspector Arvind Bhardwaj informed news agency PTI. For the past few years, the girl has been living with her parents in Kota, Rajasthan, where she attended a coaching center to be ready for the NEET-UG.
On Sunday, May 4, the National Testing Agency will administer the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) (NEET-UG) across the country. Bhardwaj stated that the body had been sent for a postmortem examination and that no suicide note had been found in her room.
